Created by Marcel Wanders in 2011, this stunning floor lamp invokes the beauty of a towering vase, casting a diffused light that is smartly juxtaposed with a floral projection overhead.
The internal structure is made of steel, and the "cocoon" resin used in the diffuser coat originally used by the Castiglioni brothers and Tobia Scarpa in the 1960’s has been enhanced and tempered to cater to the shape of the modern floor lamp.
The Chrysalis is equipped with two light sources that are controlled by dual pedal switches mounted on a power cable. The body is lit with a 54W T5 fluorescent bulb and the pattern is projected from the top of the fixture with a 60W T4 halogen. (Both bulbs are included.)
The base of the lamp is printed ABS. The frieze is silk-screened glass. The lamp comes with a 112-inch power cable.
Inspiration behind the design: Designer Marcel Wanders drew his inspiration from the "chrysalis,” also known as a butterfly’s pupa. Here, the projection reveals the beauty radiating from within this warm cocoon.
